Description
This history of the land on Gardiner's Bay that became Blue Bay Girl Scout Camp and Maidstone Park was handwritten by Abigail Edwards Field. The photocopy is signed by "Abbie" on the last page. As described in the text, Abigail grew up on the farm land known as "Franklin Farm." Born in 1898, to Daniel Edwards and Jane Tuthill Edwards (nee Edwards), Abigail recounts the history of the property, and how the land became known as Franklin Farm. Abigail mentions the arrival of people purchasing land like the Gallatin family, and she recounts Edwards Family history and genealogical information. The farmhouse was moved to what is now called Franklin Triangle, on the edge of Amagansett, where Skimhampton Rd. and Pantigo Rd. meet, in 1949. Because Abigail indicates her account is given many years after the Girl Scouts bought part of the property her family owned and opened a camp there, it is most likely the essay was written after 1949. While there is no date for when these pages were written, Abigail's death in 2006, and the sale of Franklin Farmhouse are used to narrow the period when this was writen.
