Description

Letter from Henry Mulford, onboard whaling ship Desdemona, to father Jonathan Mulford Jr., in East Hampton Township, N.Y., Salvador (Brazil), May 20, 1836. Letter relates details of their voyage, which included stops at the Western and Cape Verde Islands, Burkley Sound in the Falkland Islands, the onboard accidental death of a boy named Albert Holland, as well as acknowledging receipt of news of a great fire in New York (City), and that the "French question was settled," etc. Mulford also hopes his letter doesn't discourage East Hampton friends David and Henry Babcock from the whaling life.
